Gauri Guha - Vocal

Gauri is an acclamed Indian classical vocalist for the last 35 years with eight albums to her credit.
 
She has received many grants from the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council. She has performend internationally in many prestigious concerts and has been profiled on TV, Radio and in various newspapers in North and South America, Europe and Asia.

Gauri achieved top honors in Bachelor in Music from Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapith, Lucknow, India and has learnt from Pandit A. Kanan and Mrs. Malabika Kanan.  Currently, she is under the guidance of Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty.  Gauri has also obtained an M.A. degree in Bengali Literature from Jadavpur University, India.

In 1977, Gauri was posted at the Cultural Centre Guyana, as a Cultural Officer for three years, during which time she taught and performed extensively in the Caribbean Islands.  Over the next 31 years, Gauri trained hundreds of students internationally. 

From 1997-2003, Gauri taught and was on the board of the Worlds of Music Toronto.  Since 2002, Gauri has been a teacher at the Sangit Academy, Belgium and sang in a movie - “The Hindu Tomb” - at the Lille Festival, France in 2006. In 2007, she taught Indian music at Neufchateau, the biggest music seminar of Europe, and has judged at the Indo-Canadian Idol and several other competitions.  Gauri has performed at the Asian Heritage Month Festival since 2006 and at the Toronto International Indo-Jazz Festival in 2007.  In 2008, Rogers TV produced a biography on Gauri.  The Virtual Museum of Asian Canadian Cultural Heritage is producing a biography, available in March 2009.
