No doubt, this is an exceptional sitar handmade by Kanailal from the 20-30's, probably one of very few pieces that might have survived till nowadays.
The most special features of this instrument are the good conditions of preservation and its unique tonal quality.
It is a Kachua (turtle) style sitar, with flat tumba (as it is usually seen in surbahar) and very light, simply decorated. Its sound is deep and with good volume, and a perfect sympathetic response, harmonic and well-balanced. The sitar is 100% playable with 7 main strings (Ravi Shankar style) and double tumba.
